Quite often people look at me a little strangely and ask ” Why do you use goat’s milk in your handcrafted soap?”

Obviously, they have never tried it.

Goat’s milk, especially fresh or freshly frozen milk, adds a dimension to soap that you just can’t get from a commercially produced bar of soap.

First, you may or may not realize that what you buy in the store is probably not really soap. It is a combination of tallow (animal fat), and a chemical concoction of petroleum distillates, artificial foaming agents, perfumes, dyes and preservatives with maybe a few artificial moisturizers thrown in at the end. Wonder why you have tight itchy skin after bathing?

Not only does  this kind of ‘bar soap’ contain bacteria (after all, how can you clean pig fat?), but it really does nothing for your skin but make you think that you are clean.

REAL SOAP is made from lye (sodium hydroxide) and a combination of animal or vegetable oils that when mixed together with water or milk  ’saponify’ to form a true cleansing agent. In addition, other organic emollient oils, honey,  milk products, herbs, fresh botanical ingredeients and essential oils  may be mixed in the ’soap’ to make a truly luxurious and beneficial body and facial bar.

Each soap recipe has its own special combination of ingredients and its own beneficial properties. It is all of those special extra ingredients that make handcrafted soap so unique and so wonderful.

We choose to include our farm raised fresh goat’s milk instead of distilled water or spring water in  many of our soap recipes.

Goat’s milk has a host of fantastic properties whether you drink it or use it in personal care products. We will save the drinking benefits for another day!

  • Goat’s milk soap and lotion contain a variety of essential vitamins and minerals including A, C, E, B1, B6, B12, zinc, citric, amino acids and unsaturated fatty acids. The benefits can be amazing.  Vitamin A helps to slow down the skin’s aging process and helps with brown spots. Zinc is known for reconstructing the skin’s collagen fibers and absorbing and retaining moisture. We have found goat’s milk to be super for sensitive skin.
  • Goat’s milk soap has a pH level similar to human skin; therefore, goat’s milk soap benefits the skin by protecting skin from daily bacterial and chemical invasions.
  • The reason that goat’s milk soap is beneficial in the treatment of acne is that the goat’s milk soap contains an acidic property which helps neutralize the bacteria while still allowing your skin to retain its moisture. Raw honey also has excellent benefits for the treatment of acne and other skin problems.
  • Goat’s milk soap sloughs off dead skin because of the alpha-hydroxy acids found in the milk.
  • Goat’s milk soap , at least our soap, is paraben free, contains no animal by products (except the milk), is never tested on animals, is alcohol free and is oh so nourishing.

All of our praises of goat’s milk soap are based on our own personal experiences and those of our friends and loyal customers. We do not intend them to be a cure all for every skin ailment, but we assure you, it is a superior alternative to the soap that is commercially manufactured.

A nice hard bar of handcrafted soap will outlast traditional bar soap,  will lather better and will not leave your skin taught, dry and itchy.
